Leo Carthy Weekend, Ladies Island - Aug 5,6 2017
The Annual Leo Carthy Weekend at Ladies Island is both a celebration of a man who did so much to promote the area and of the rich culture which makes this area so special. It is relatively low-key but strong on variety and entertainment. Variety Concert on Saturday evening includes some great acts and is MC'd by local radio star Alan Corcoran. On Sunday afternoon there's a family fun day along with a free open air concert featuring local traditional musicians.

The Annual Bunclody Horticultural Society Show is a celebration of the richness of traditional crafts and skills in the area and includes Cookery, Crafts, Agricultural and Horticultural produce. A family fun day including the very popular art exhibition from local and national artists, with junior and senior sections in art, photography, short-story and writing competitions. The flower section entries always draw gasps of admiration. And the competition in the Home Produce section is very strong in all classes. Gorey Bee Keepers will exhibit their bee keeping skills and you’ll get to meet a Queen bee!

Phil Murphy devised a playing technique for the diatonic harmonica involving modal music and vamping accompaniment with spectacular effect when added to fast reels and jigs. He passed his technique onto his sons, John and Pip. This festival remembers Phil Murphy.
